BINST ARCHITECTS invited me to illustrate their very first comic, published as part of their monumental 1,376-page book UNTITLED (Lannoo, 2024). Over the course of a year, I created a 48-page narrative comic in close collaboration with architect Sven Van Loon, with editorial guidance from Luc Binst, CEO of the firm.

The story, inspired by Luc Binst’s life and work, unfolds as a thrilling race against time in which several of BINST ARCHITECTS’ most iconic projects are woven directly into the adventure. The result is a playful, humorous counterpart to the book’s otherwise monumental retrospective—bridging architectural vision with visual storytelling.

Rather than starting from a written script, we developed the story visually: sketching key shots, refining the sequence, and then building up each page from linework to grayscale, monochrome, and finally lettering. This iterative process allowed architectural ideas and narrative flow to seamlessly integrate.

The comic not only became a distinctive highlight of UNTITLED, but also demonstrated how graphic storytelling can make complex architectural narratives accessible and engaging.

We developed the story visually rather than from a finished script: starting with key shots and rough outlines to map the flow. From there, each page was built up step by step—line art, grayscale, monochrome, and finally lettering—while continuously fine-tuning to match BINST ARCHITECTS’ narrative.
